The 'Vote' Factor

This year’s general election has undoubtedly been covered in masses. A series of three leaders’ debates have been conducted live on television between the labour, conservative and lib dem parties. Now, this being my first year to stake the right to vote, I have taken more of an attention to this year’s election. The TV debates have been my core of following.

Talking in terms of my generation, the 18 – 21 category, I feel the stigma of these TV debates has stolen our attention. When comparing to past years, the whole knocking on door and political rallying has failed to engage me. With these nation-wide aired debates, it’s almost an ‘X factor’ structure. Each leader will give their performance, and whether it’s ‘Alistair Stewart or David Dimbleby’ moderating - they seem to mock up the role of dictating the three as if ‘Simon Cowell’ would do.

Ultimately, will these debates have a final say in who takes charge of fixing the country? It’s all that people seem to be commenting on within these campaigns and with a vast amount of people watching, it seems hard for the TV debates to not have a say, whether it’s final or not, who knows.
